Shared Options

These options are used to designate the keywords from .FCS files that are used to annotate plates in the plate editor, and which files are associated with a plate in the layout editor plate tool.  There are three default plate attributes that are automatically assigned when you open the plate tool. Based on what the keywords are in your files, you can set the default keyword that FlowJo will assign to these three attributes. ‘Experiment Name’ and ‘Plate ID’ will select the .FCS files that are “read” from the workspace for display at the top of the plate.  The ‘Well ID’ assigns well position in the plate tool and plate editor based on the keyword value entered for this preference.

We don’t recommend changing the Well ID unless the keyword you use in your files for assigning well position is not called WELL ID.

Layout Editor Plate Tool Options

‘Maintain Aspect Ratio’, when checked, will keep the proportional relationship between the height and width of a plate as resizing occurs.

Plate Editor Options

The plate editor platform also has several default preference options. These are described below:

  • ‘Color borders of categorical keywords’ – different keyword “sets” can be used as categories. If a keyword is set to a category, the default behavior is to outline all the wells that contain that categorical keyword in the same color for quick identification.
  • ‘Use thicker borders’ – increase the line width for the aforementioned borders.  The default line thickness of all borders is “thick”. Turn this off to make the lines “thin”.
  • ‘Heatmap Numerical Keywords’ – allows for the visualization of numerical annotations directly within the plate editor.
