A step is one of the tasks that make up a workflow.
When you are assigned a step, FlowJo Envoy automatically sends you a notification that you have been assigned to that step.
When the state of the step preceding your step is set to Done or when your step is set to Running, a notification is sent to you alerting you that your step needs to be performed.
View Instructions
- In Workflow Detail view, locate the workflow containing the step.
- In the Workflow Overview Panel, to the right of the Instructions field, click View.
The instructions file opens in a new browser window.
Start Work on a Step
- If your step is first in the workflow, FlowJo Envoy sends you a notification when the workflow owner starts the workflow.
- Otherwise, when the step that comes before your step in the sequence is marked Done, you will receive a notification that your step has started.
In either case, FlowJo Envoy sends you a notification alerting you to the change in the step’s state, and work on the step can begin.
Check State of a Step
The state of a step tells you whether work has started on a step and how it is proceeding. For step states and their meanings, see Steps.
- In either Workflow Filter view or Workflow Detail view, find the workflow containing the desired step.
- If necessary, scroll to bring the desired step into view, and click the step’s chevron.
Dark blue bars appear above and below the step to show it is selected, and the Step Details box displays information for the selected step.
Stop Work on a Step
If some problem requires work on a step to stop, notify assignees of that step and the workflow owner by marking the step as blocked.
- In either Workflow Filter view or Workflow Detail view, find the workflow containing the desired step.
- If necessary, scroll to bring the desired step into view, and click the step’s chevron.
Dark blue bars appear above and below the step to show it is selected. - Click Block.
- The step state changes to Blocked, and the step’s chevron turns solid gray.
- You are prompted to add a comment that will be included in the body of notifications that will be sent to that step’s owner and assignee.
- FlowJo Envoy sends notices to the workflow owner alerting them to the change in the step’s state.
Resume Work on a Step
When work can continue on a blocked step, notify assignees of that step and workflow by lifting the block.
- In either Workflow Filter view or Workflow Detail view, find the workflow containing the desired step.
- If necessary, scroll to bring the desired step into view, and click the step’s chevron.
Dark blue bars appear above and below the step to show it is selected. - Click Run.
- The step state changes to Running, and the step’s chevron turns hollow green.
- FlowJo Envoy sends notices to the workflow owner alerting them to the change in the step’s state.
Complete Work on a Step
When work on a step is complete, notify assignees of that step and workflow by marking the step as done.
- In either Workflow Filter view or Workflow Detail view, find the workflow containing the desired step.
- If necessary, scroll to bring the desired step into view, and click the step’s chevron.
Dark blue bars appear above and below the step to show it is selected. - Click Running.
- The step state changes to Done, and the step’s chevron turns solid green.
- FlowJo Envoy sends notices to the workflow owner alerting them to the change in the step state.
- The next step in the workflow is set to Running, and that step’s chevron turns hollow green.
- FlowJo Envoy sends notices to the step assignee alerting them the change in the step’s state.
Resume Work on a Completed Step
- In either Workflow Filter view or Workflow Detail view, find the workflow containing the desired step.
- If necessary, scroll to bring the desired step into view, and click the step’s chevron.
Dark blue bars appear above and below the step to show it is selected. - Click Done.
- The step state changes to Running, and the step’s chevron turns hollow green.
- FlowJo Envoy sends notices to the workflow owner alerting them to the change in the step’s state.
Administer Instructions for a Step
Designate Instructions for a Step
Note: More than one file can be designated as instructions for a step.
- In Workflow Detail view, in the Step Details panel, click the plus button next to Instructions.
A drop-down menu appears listing the files attached to this workflow. - Click the name of the desired file.
The filename adds the file, and the filename appears next to Instructions.
Remove Instructions from a Step
In Workflow Detail view, in the Step Details panel, click the down arrow next to the name of the file you want to remove.
FlowJo Envoy removes the filename from the list of instructions next to Instructions.
